Founded in 1845, Ascension Catholic is a Catholic co-educational school operated by the Diocese of Baton Rouge that serves grades pre-school through twelve.
Ascension Catholic educates and develops the mind, body and spirit of each student to know, love and serve God, self and others in a safe and caring environment. After 165 years of providing quality Catholic education to our youth in the greater Donaldsonville and surrounding communities, Ascension Catholic with its reputation for providing personal, intellectual, and religious formation in a nurturing, family-like environment, is still producing well rounded graduates fully prepared to take their places in American society as responsible, Christian citizens. Today, Ascension Catholic serves over 500 students from pre-school through 12th grade from 19 church parishes. Colleges and universities around the country, including Ivy League institutions, see 98% of our graduates, half of whom enjoy academic scholarships totaling $1,144,200.00. In the graduating class of 2008, 84% of the class graduated with honors and 63% of the class earned TOPS scholarship awards. Our High School’s 2008 ACT average of 21.2 surpassed both the state and national averages. A notable part of our tradition includes a strong athletics program, which has claimed numerous state championships over the years, and a dance team, which has consistently been ranked nationally.
“We believe that every child is a child of God and for that reason our school exists”
Ascension Catholic believes the commitment to continuous improvement is imperative if our school is going to enable students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners. Teachers, administrators, parents, and the community share the responsibility for advancing the mission of Ascension Catholic. Ascension Catholic accepts the responsibility for educating and developing students. Ascension Catholic is committed to providing opportunities for the growth of the whole person.
Religious education classes provide cognitive, affective, and behavior knowledge of God and the Catholic faith. Regularly scheduled prayer and worship — both private and communal — allow for spiritual growth.
Academic excellence is pursued through the study of curriculum. Curriculum and instructional practices incorporate a variety of learning activities to assure intellectual progress of all students.
Required service projects encourage social interaction with the community as well as stewardship. Students are challenged to desire the good of others as the most important value guiding social decision-making.
Self-esteem and emotional health are enhanced by positive relationships and mutual respect among and between students and staff. By fostering respect for the dignity of each human person, including oneself, students recognize their creation in the image of God.
Physical education classes (Grades K-8) assist in the health and well being of the students. Students are encouraged to participate in the multifaceted athletic program (available to grades 5-t2) that not only assists in physical fitness but also promotes a sense of competition, teamwork and fair play.
